Being a child is already a form of expertise on the world.
In the queue at a polling station, a six-year-old is about to slip his ballot paper into the box, just like everyone else. If this idea is met with hilarity by most adults, it’s because children are universally considered incapable of taking part in the ritual that seals the democratic pact. What would happen, however, if this prejudice were challenged? The right to vote from birth, a just and necessary reform of democracy, will be the occasion for a collective, joyful and popular reflection on electoral competence, political expertise, civic education and human affinities beyond age categories.
