Emelie loves the pulse of the city, the crowds, she chains together countless contracts and evening events without counting. But one day, Emelie collapses. The young professional finds herself forced to go into isolation in the Swedish hinterland. Believing herself disconnected from everything, she crosses paths with a marginal community, composed of seven individuals with bewildering destinies. Among themselves, they have invented a system of governance and processes of self-sufficiency. They harvest, build, dance, bathe, sleep huddled under Great-Pine. How the devil did they end up in this unusual life? Arriving from the outside, Emelie brings them a formidable question: are they happy? La colonie proposes, with humor, intelligence and emotion, to experience, through fiction, an attempt at collective emancipation.

Crowned with prestigious literary prizes, an immense bestseller translated into about fifteen languages, Annika Norlin’s original debut novel is a true phenomenon in Sweden.
