Manuela Draeger’s final novel, the penultimate work of post-exoticism, a major literary edifice created by Antoine Volodine and his avatars in 1998.

In a frozen world where daylight refuses to break, a group of twenty lost children slumbers in the dormitory of a camp. Magda, the only one capable of setting the machinery of time into motion, has just died.

Magda knew how to commit the necessary crime night after night to coax the dawn to finally appear. Without her, darkness continues to reign.

Now, it is Yaki’s turn to dirty his hands in a strange place where descendants of humans, demons, and mummies intertwine. In this universe, where the line between reality and dream blurs, he must confront the shadows of darkness to bring life back into existence.

The author

Manuela Draeger belongs to a community of imaginary authors. With Éditions de l’Olivier, she published Onze rêves de suie in 2010, Herbes et golems in 2012 and Kree in 2020. Arrêt sur enfance is her latest book. It will be followed by a 49th opus, Retour au goudron, by the Infernus Iohannes collective, the last book in the post-exotic edifice, a singular literary work that unfolds under several signatures, with Antoine Volodine as its spokesman.
