Kim Seong-ho is a prominent Seoul profiler investigating a cyber-bullying case. Suspects quickly turn on him, hack into his accounts and publicly expose his life. To get him out of this trap, his boss entrusts him with a new investigation far from Seoul, on the island of Sambo. In this Mecca of shamanism, three women have disappeared, probably victims of a serial killer. Kim Seong-ho is accompanied by Yeo Do-yun, a specialist in folklore and shamanic rites, in particular the ssitgim-gut of Sambo. The ssitgim-gut is literally: “the ritual to wash away the feelings of bitterness and resentment experienced by the deceased at the time of his or her death”. But on the island, in this month of January, in the icy air whipped by rain and waves, the victims are not yet ready for forgiveness. Mysterious nocturnal reconciliations take place between two silhouettes, puppies are killed, a heavier and heavier atmosphere falls on Kim Song-ho’s shoulders and he begins to feel strange headaches as personal memories come to mingle with his investigation...
