Anna Thalberg unfolds the tragic pain of a sealed fate.

One afternoon, while stoking the fire in her thatched cottage, the young, honey-eyed Anna Thalberg is abducted by brutal men and taken to Würzburg prison, where she is accused of witchcraft. Isolated and tortured for days, she stands up to the cruel examiner Melchior Vogel while Anna’s husband Klaus and her village priest Father Friedrich try everything in their power to save her from the flames of the stake. Little by little, the face of the Devil is revealed to be that of the God of men, and the witch a new Christ.

In a stylistic tour de force, Eduardo Sangarcía manages to bring together in one breath the concerns of each of the characters in this drama, brilliantly bringing to life the murderous madness of the Würzburg witch trials, which shook southern Germany in the 16th and 17th centuries.
