Aurélie William Levaux almost permanently intertwines her life and her creations. Whether visual or written, her works reflect her emotions, her state of mind, and her daily life, her condition as an artist, a woman, a mother, her questions as citizens as well as her sentimental interrogations.

In the tradition of Bataille (pas l’auteur), Justice (pas le groupe) takes a form similar to a diary, in which she evokes almost day by day the courses she gives, the works and performances she works on, her love life and the daily life with her daughter, until the appearance of Covid-19. How can she continue her life as an artist during a pandemic? How to arbitrate between the health risks and the need for irrepressible freedom expressed by many citizens oppressed by a large-scale imposed enclosure?
More than ever in touch with current events, her energetic and unfiltered prose acts and reacts to the contradictory stimuli she and her entourage receive. Always rebellious and overexcited, hypersensitive and inventive, Aurélie William Levaux reports with self-mockery and humor on her quest for meaning and simply on her search for her place in a world in chaos.

The author

Born in 1981, Aurélie William Levaux lives and works in Liège (Belgium). Member of the Liège collective Mycose, her work is at the crossroads of illustration, comics, diary and contemporary art.
It is with her publications at La Cinquième couche, Menses ante rosam (2008) and Les yeux du seigneur (2010) that she has been noticed by the contemporary art scene. Combining papers and fabrics, drawings and embroideries, these works can be read and viewed like a diary where the artist shares her anxieties, impulses, desires and doubts. A protean artist, Aurélie William Levaux never stops exploring new media.

Strong points

After Le tas de pierres, written with her brother, Aurélie William Levaux continues the work begun with Bataille (pas l’auteur).

A text in the form of a diary that condenses with humor and self-mockery the concerns
- increased by time of pandemic
- existential, creative, but also simply citizen concerns of an artist.

A text that challenges and questions from the inside the importance of creation when culture is at a standstill.
