A senior executive at a food company, Barbara Lis is an unremarkable woman—until the day she receives a rabbit as a birthday gift. That very same day, a melancholic Polish plumber crosses her path. Love at first sight. They move to Pawel’s native village, on the other side of Europe.

There, from the pious locals to the more or less well-meaning neighbors, everyone keeps a close eye on the Frenchwoman’s belly, hoping for happy news. But in the couple’s brand-new house, it’s only the rabbit that keeps getting bigger.

Under the pressure of social norms, gossip, and fantasies, this small community begins to overflow—triggering a global shockwave.

A sharp, biting dive into the world of yesterday—and perhaps tomorrow.
