Political thriller by the author of Niko, free fall behind the scenes of the Bleed family’s dictatorship at the end of his reign.

In Mahbad, the Bleed family has ruled for three generations. The most recent, Vadim Bleed, is seeking a second term in a presidential election that looks like a big show. It’s just a formality, after all: the day is set at the quarter turn, and if a few ballots disappear, it won’t be the end of the world. But events do go wrong. On Revolution Square and in the streets of Qala Phratteh, violent clashes erupt as the population calls for a new government.
The results of the elections are slow in coming, the forces of law and order are armed, and Vadim Bleed is missing. His father, Mustafa Bleed, a grey eminence or disarticulated puppet, thought he had things under control.

Press

“I can’t think of another political novel as good as this one.”

Richard King, CBC.

The Bleed is not just a burlesque of a dictatorship, but rather a fierce political satire with real teeth.”

Jeff Miller, Montreal Review of Books.
