Shakespeare to the rescue of happiness

Is a truth always good to tell? Can we be ourselves? What do we need to live well or to move towards an idea of happiness? How can we make sense of our work and our rest? What is the link between love and beauty? In Juliet’s Promise, a happy succession of short essays that are both simple and profound, Mustapha Fahmi shows how literature and philosophy help us understand ourselves and the world we live in. An internationally renowned Shakespearean, the author accompanies King Lear throughout the pages to reflect on identity, fragility, dignity and love. We also come across Kant and Kierkegaard, Arendt and Beauvoir, Rodin and Van Gogh, Berlioz and Prokofiev, Austen and Dante.
