A prodigious novel that resonates terribly with our times.

When word gets out that Miron, the Prime Minister of the Romanian government, is about to be imprisoned, a whole world of money, sex and relationships begins to unravel. From construction sites to jet-setting parties, La pire espèce follows Victor, Miron’s confidant, for a day at the heart of this inferno. From nothing, he’s now a millionaire. Will he betray the man who made him, or remain loyal to him? In this ultra-corrupt and mafia-like system, Victor has to deal with Robert, the propagandist he himself recruited, Costin, the mysterious shadow advisor, Theodor, the head of Intelligence, Corina, a modern Madame Bovary climbing the ladder of a pitiless universe, Stéfane and Roxana, the literary couple thirsting for recognition, Gélou the bling-bling scoundrel and so many others.

With this monumental feat of writing, a veritable human comedy of Eastern Europe, Cristian Fulaş, one of the most important contemporary Romanian authors, unfolds the universal portrait of a species subjected to the passion of domination. Perhaps the worst kind.
